Abstract

In the wake of the uprising that led with breathtaking speed to the toppling of Hosni Mubarak’s long-standing National Democratic Party (NDP)regime, most of Egypt rejoices. However, the country’s main religiousparties—the Muslim Brotherhood (al-Ikhwan al-Muslimin) and Salafi organizations—and themselves in a quandary: significant ideological differences exist between and within these groups and such differences are rejected in their responses to Egypt’s uprising.
