Abstract

Open air natural history museums act as a distinct type of museum that exhibits its collections out of doors aiming to record earlier life forms, ways of life, cultural customs and habits. Nowadays, museums including the Natural History Museums, look forward to increase the number of visitors and revisited visitors, throughout transforming museum visitors from passive consumers in a collection focused ‘static exhibition’ to active participants in a visitor centered ‘interactive technology exhibition’ by making the museum collection easier for the general public to use, more technically and technologically displayed. Therefore, display techniques became a main key within the visitors participatory approach process. The main aim of this paper is to set out a user centered design methods strategies for the development of the open-air museum exhibition throughout transforming museum visitor investigating display techniques that can be applied in open air natural history museums, it may provide a potential for best practice in future museum exhibition setting that can be used to increase museum visitors’ social interaction with the museum environment. This paper modeled some significant display techniques tools and methods to promote interactivity for open air natural history museum exhibition design, space creation and urban regeneration processes can be used as a tool for designers to help them in designing, evaluating and rehabbing of museums exhibits.
