Abstract
Egypt is considered one of the most populated countries among Arab countries. Most of the Egyptians live in either the Nile Valley or the Nile Delta extended beside the river from Aswan in Upper Egypt to Rasheed in Lower Egypt. The multilayered housing crisis in Egypt is considered a crucial political matter. On the one hand, there is a surplus housing of high-end level having more than six million units left empty. On the other hand, needed affordable units are not available and such shortage is a problem for those who are in need for them. Therefore, it is time to think of a solution that can be used for the exponential population growth in the 21st century. Prefab modular structure can be used as a solution for such crisis which is the main aim of this paper. This paper will be divided into four main parts: Housing problem in Egypt, Pre-fab as a solution, Case studies and proposed unit that can be studied and implemented.
