Abstract
Audit committees are being recommended for public companies and are being recognized as valuable in not-for-profit entities/ This paper presents the results of a study of trustee perceptions in voluntary not-for-profit hospitals in the United States and companies the results to a similar study conducted using public companies. While not-for-profit entities differ in many ways from public for-profft entities, their need for accountability and transparency remain somewhat similar.
