Abstract

Cement production is one of the most energy-consuming and carbon-emitting production processes worldwide, requiring the development of sustainable technologies that integrate CO2 mineralization to limit environmental consequences. This research proposes a novel and sustainable cement production process that captures and reuses CO₂ emissions through chemical reaction with Solvay wastewater (mainly CaCl2) in presence of ammonium hydroxide (NH₄OH). The process results in the formation of calcium carbonate (CaCO₃), which can be recycled into the kiln, and ammonium chloride (NH₄Cl), which is valuable in fertilizers industry. The process was simulated by an Aspen plus using ELECNRTL fluid package, resulting in calcium carbonate and ammonium chloride yield of 242869Kg/hr and 97847.7Kg/hr respectively. This system creates a closed-loop CO₂ cycle, minimizes environmental pollution, and promotes circular economy principles by reducing emissions, raw material consumption, and waste disposal management.
