Abstract
This paper examines the challenges and opportunities in reducing greenhouse gas emissions through the phase out of fossil fuels and acceleration of renewable energy. The 3 areas of interest discussed are: fossil fuel subsidies, electric grid infrastructure and decarbonisation challenges in industrial and transport sectors. The two policy recommendations include development of a national just transition framework and integration of energy storage systems in grids. This paper is directly aimed at governments and policy makers.
