Abstract

The objective of this paper is to answer the question of whether regional media is still influential in shaping political awareness and hence have a significant role in forming public opinion, especially among youth. This research question is evaluated by examining regional media in Egypt, more precisely, the Suez Canal Region.

In order to ensure the validity and reliability of our results, this paper deployed a number of different data collection methods, which involves collecting, analysing and integrating quantitative and qualitative research.

The results reveal that regional media has the potentials to effectively share in the developmental public policy process. The recommendations put forward by this paper are the necessity of eliminating red tape, governmental bureaucracy, and centralization in managing regional radio and television. Financial independence is also required to ensure efficient public communication in addition to the urgent need to restructure the organizational hierarchy of all state-run regional media.
