Demand-Driven Distribution Requirements Planning in Fast Moving Consumer Goods Supply Chains

Abstract
Supply chain management is an essential concept in any organization to ensure its success and development in a competitive environment. One of its key functions is distribution requirements planning and operations related to transportation of goods. Lack of adequate distribution planning leads to poor quality of products, excessive inventory, and delivery delays. A survey had was used to assess and determine the perception of FMCG companies in Egypt on the importance of distribution planning and transportation. Moreover, it also determines the major factors that influence distribution requirements planning. The questionnaire survey was answered by 33 companies with a response rate of 66%. The survey has shown the importance of supply chain management and distribution planning for manufacturing companies in Egypt. Based on multiple regression and Analysis of variance, it was concluded that the significant factors with higher impact on the delivery performance are supply chain design, inventory policy, and modes of transportation.
