Abstract

The Sinai Settlement Project of 1902-1903 holds immense significance for the Zionist movement's quest to establish a Jewish homeland in Palestine. Following unsuccessful negotiations with the Ottoman Empire, movement leaders proposed this project. Yet, their efforts to persuade the British government, which held authority in Egypt, to grant them land in Sinai were fruitless. In 1903, violent anti-Jewish pogroms in Imperial Russia prompted a mass migration westward. To salvage the Zionist project, the organization sought support from the Rothschild family association. With their assistance, the project overcame obstacles and exemplified the influential role played by transnational dynasties in international relations.
