Abstract
New applications for energy conversion are currently envisaged, such as the conversion of waste heat into electricity and solar energy into heat energy. Most of the effort conducted in research focuses on improving the performance of energy conversion materials, whereas, the environmental impact and the sustainability of the used materials is overlooked.
This work reviews the material requirements for energy conversion applications, with special focus on waste heat recovery, and discusses the limitations of conventional materials for this application. The work will present new research results showing that there are options to replacing conventional materials with polymeric based sustainable materials.
