Abstract
Cultural ecology and Ecofeminism are two concepts that intersect with each other. Both concepts define and reinforce each other. It could be claimed that, Ecofeminism is one manifestation of cultural ecology since the former tackles issues about feminism’s relationship with nature including nature domination and the duality of nature which find their echoes in cultural ecology as well. The whole idea of the earth’s subjugation and male domination as well as the male/ female duality of nature in general find resonance in feminist resistance to patriarchal domination which develop under the umbrella of Ecofeminism to be part of the struggle against the patricentric view of nature and more towards an anthropocentric one. Cultural ecology on the other hand is all about different peoples’ adaptation to their environments and how cultural traditions influence their treatment of their environments. Thus the article aims at a close reading of Margret Attwood’s “Habitation”, “The City Planners”, “Morning in the Burned House”, “February”, and “Night Poem” tracing and analyzing both cultural ecology and ecofeminism as two important strands in reading Atwood’s work. Both concepts offer Atwood a new interpretation for her work and could be viewed within the framework linking both cultural ecology and Ecofeminism as a statement reflecting both concepts’ intersection and connectivity.
