Abstract
This describes an effort to map various rock and soil units as part of a general study of the geology, structure and erosional features of the Western Egypt deser sand units were obtained from Samples of several region. this region and their visible and near-infrared reflectance spec- tra were measured and analyzed. Knowledge of the optical properties of certain sands was then used to search Landsat images for deposits of these sandg. This procedure is described here as is and application of it to a region containing the Kharga Oasis.
