Abstract

This policy paper emphasizes the significance of implementing green and sustainable practices in post-conflict rebuilding. According to the tendencies of reconstruction, environmental concerns are not a priority for governments after gaining stability, which can cause unpleasant consequences, including the new rise of resource-based conflicts, the new wave of reconstruction, and vulnerability in social aspects of certain categories. The main goal of the research is to show that green rebuilding is a necessity that leads to sustainability, peace, and trust, by analyzing two opposite cases of reconstruction priorities: Colombia, as a successful one, and Iraq, as a warning one. The policy paper is also focused on current policy gaps, including inconsistency between humanitarian and climate programs, and suggests potential mechanisms for development and practices that can be implemented in current global cases.
